And a Great Sunday.
Gosh life has gotten busy. Is it weird that I am looking forward to classes this week? Thankfully it will be a very light school load so I get to do what I love most. Make pretty things!!! I should get at LEAST four journal pages done. And maybe get some fun new things in my shop!!! Journal Kits and upcycled envelopes??? Happy Sunday!!!
So... Simply enough this blog is about me. Shocking I know. I have been inspired to start this blog by the movie "Julie and Julia". No, I will not be cooking... I will most likely be writing a lot about my love of mail and all of my postal endeavors. I will also undoubtedly be writing about my husband, darling little girl and dog. Not to mention any other meanderings that may cross my mind. So, here we go.

It is here!
Today a little birdie dropped my Water Color Field Kit on my doorstep! I'm not much of a water colorer. I do love to paint but I tend to be a messy, mushy let the brushstrokes show kind of painter. And mostly landscapes. I love trees! Anyway. I absolutely love this little set! The colors are gorgeous. It transforms into an easel and the brush is a water brush. It has a tube that you fill with water! So it truly is a "field kit". I think this little painting will definitely end up in my Smash Book.

Page Two!
So far. So good. My favorite is the "Deadly Poppy Field" Wizard of Oz postcard. It's lately had alot of meaning in my life. Any who, I'm having a great time using my Smash Book. So far it's exactly what I need!!! Next year I'll definitely try my hand at making my own.
I have some goodies coming to me in the mail this week! I finally found the "Immortal Love" scrap pack on Amazon and scooped it up! It's Twilight inspired and super pretty. And I have a field water color kit coming as well. Thought I'd try it out in my book and see how it works! Pictures and details to follow.

So Far...
My Hybrid Journal is working fantastically for me! One of the reasons I ALWAYS fail at journaling is I write something that I don't want others to read... And end up ripping out the pages and stashing them elsewhere.
I love to journal because I want to have a written record of my life. Some tangible evidence of my existence. Hoping that years from now someone will read it and peek through the window into my mind. So, I have come up with a way to incorporate my old fashioned, lined cream colored paper, cursive writing journal entry pages into my book. An unsuspecting envelope!
I love to upcycle envelopes and have a whole stack (which I've been meaning to put into my shop). I adhered the envelope flap to the page so that it can be lifted up and journal entries can be placed inside!
Now the passing glancer wont know that they are there. But the inquisitive mind (much later on) may find them. Most importantly I know that they are there and years from now I can read and reflect on my current mind set at this time in my life. How neat is that?!

I have succumbed
Ive acquired a Smash Book! So I've been facing a journal/art journal hybrid dilemma. I say hybrid because most "art journals" seem to be more art and less actual writing and I love both! And want my journal to represent that.
I'm searching for the type of journal that works for me. While I love the journals I've been using because they are great for writing they don't really hold up that well under my paper and photo add ins. So I've purchased a Smash Book in order to deconstruct it. Find out why people think its fantastic, figure out what works for me and what doesn't. And the make my own! It's a recon mission.
I really want to put some Journal Kits in my shop but I have hesitated because I want them to be just right. So... Here are a few pictures of some of my favorite pages in the new book!

I'm an Entrepreneur!
I sold my first item from my shop! Hurray! A lucky lady from Australia purchased one of my lovely Owl journals. I promptly wrapped it into a pretty package with some extra goodies and sent it off to its new home. So exciting! I hope she loves it. There are going to be a few more posts today. Stay tuned!

Why Am I JUST Hearing About This?!
SMASH BOOK!
This has to be the most incredible thing ever! (OK not ever... but) This is exactly how my only Journal that ever passed page four was! Just a place where I stuck everything. I wasn't concerned about necessarily how it looked (though we know that's not completely true) but it was a space for notes and lists, paper and pictures. It was fabulous! And now someone has made an incredible product and sold the idea.
I am so in love with this idea. Granted I wont be buying and actual Smash Book brand journal but fancy this. Just today I bought a small blank wire-bound art notebook. I found my current journals' pages weren't heavy weighted enough for all my add ins... But, what I truly love is that lately I haven't been working on my Fall Journal Workshop pages because I feel artistically a little stressed/pressured to make something exceptionally beautiful.
Well, I am switching gears and getting back into my journal! Smash, smash, smahing I shall go! Can you tell I'm excited? LOL

The First Step
So! I really want to make my own journal. But. I need one starting tomorrow. So I don't quite have enough time to hone my non existent Coptic stitch skills so I have decided to start with a hybrid! Part store bought part hand made. I am currently about to whip out my sewing machine and stitch together paper for the first time!!! Pictures to follow... May the force be with me.

Five Days Behind...
I am in a rut... I am now about five days behind on my journaling. I've been sick and exhausted physically and mentally. I just haven't wanted to journal. Or do anything really. And it's hotter than Hades this week! What happened to a cool crisp Fall! I'm melting. I hope this cumulus nimbus over my head goes away soon. I hate feeling blah...
Anywho. Here's my page. It's supposed to be "What I Need". I kind of like that you can't really read what I wrote until you take a very close look. It suits my mood.

Hand Sewn Journal!
I was soooo inspired by a picture of a hand sewn art journal that the "Cat Wrangler" posted on her Blog that I followed the picture and discovered "A Little Imagination and a Pile of Junk" (both ladies can be found in my Click Please! section).
She makes these amazing hand made and sewn journals and I cant wait to try my hand at making one for myself!!! I of course will be finishing my current journal (the first EVER to hopefully be finished...so far seven pages is a record!). But now I am super excited to start collecting paper!!! I also want to attempt sewing paper together and using colored seams has embellishment. PAPER IS FUN!

Day Número Seis
Why does this page look better in the photo than in real life! I think it's too busy...
The prompt was "Color Collection". Simple enough right? Choose your favorite Fall color and collect items for your page. But. I somehow managed to make a page I don't really care for... Maybe I should let my finished pages marinate before I post about them. Then this Blog won't become such a downer!!!

Today is Today
Yesterday Was a Disaster. Tomorrow is Always a New Day.
This is my latest journal page. The prompt was simply "Today". My day was spent at work so instead I journaled about the Idea of Days. Present. Past. & Future.
My pages these last few days seem a little melancholy... But meaningful. Blah. Maybe I'm melancholy. It really seems to be showing in my art.

Transform
Was yesterday's prompt for my "I Will Fall For You" journal workshop. We were encouraged to focus on not only the transformation of nature and seasons but also of self. I find this one to be the deepest and most personal one thus far. It's a more serious page. I can't decide if I'm happy with it! It seems dark...
I used Alice's "Drink Me" scene and one of my favorite Robert Frost poems "The Road Not Taken". And of course any excuse to add some trees and I will! Hmmm...

Day Two of Journal Workshop!
Goals
For this page I tried to make sure that the message was clear as to what my goals are for this journal process. I used some great French stamps I received on a letter from my new pen pal Stephanie and a great little card with a man writing that I received from Julie at La Papierre. I'm not quite sure if I love this page but it's done and there's no turning back! Which means it will probably end up being my favorite later on...

Hi. My name is Sara
And I have a stationery addiction.
This is a two (yes two) inch binder filled with plastic sleeves of stationery. The poor binder has doubled in height and doesn't really close... This is not accounting for my boxes of postcards or my ephemera. Or my scrapbooking paper! Oh dear...
